How to Become a Christian

Being a Christian is not about religion, but about a relationship.

Through His Son Jesus, God the Father, provided a way to come into a right relationship with Him.  In the Bible, John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

God created you in His own image and He gave you a free will and with that, freedom of choice. The problem is that through sin, a choosing to do wrong,  you became separated from God.  “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  Romans 3:23

People have tried to bridge this separation from God through their own efforts, acts of kindness and even by attending church.  Ephesians 2:8 states, ” For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

The ONLY answer to this problem of separation from God is Jesus Christ.  He paid the price for sin, once for all.  In 1 Peter 3:18 it tells us that, “Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but He died for sinners to bring you safely home to God.”

He was crucified, died, buried and raised to life to show His victory over sin and death.  (Colossians 2:11-15)

Since Jesus has made a way for you to take your rightful place as God’s child, it is up to you to receive what has already been done for you.  “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12

Please understand that there is no wrong you have done that God’s grace has not forgiven.  The Bible states in Romans 5:8  “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

It’s up to you to take the next step.  Will you receive what Jesus has done for and choose to become part of His family?  You don’t have to wait to go to church in order to make things right between you and God.  You can do it right now by praying this prayer:

Dear Lord Jesus
I know that I have done wrong and need your forgiveness.
I believe that You died and rose again for my sins and that by your shed blood I am forgiven and made brand new.
I desire You to be Lord over my life and from this day forward I choose to follow You.
I am now a child of God.
Thank you Heavenly Father

Now, you are part of the family of God.  1 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

It is important that you start going to a Bible believing church so that you can grow in this new life you have just entered.

We at The River Church would love to welcome you to the family.  If you don’t have a church already, we’d love for you to join us Sunday morning at 10am.

Congratulations on the greatest decision you will ever make!
